A little fresh pink or apricot on your cheeks, and your face immediately has a healthy look.
But blush can do a lot more! With a neutral color like light brown or beige, you can correct your face here and there and hide things that you are less happy with.
A pointed chin makes you a bit softer, you cuddle that pronounced nose and you make yourself the beautiful cheekbone gift that may miss your face naturally. Let’s start with the basics though, to make sure you get it right every time.
Pink or Apricot?
Do not just buy any blush because there are infinite many shades. From tarry to soft orange, from neutral soft brown to bright fuchsia … What shade do you choose best? That depends primarily on your skin tone and hair color. The following color wizard will help you decide:
• Pale skin and blonde, red or light brown hair?
Especially soft colors like apricot are suitable. Also light baby pink and soft pink can be beautiful. Look out with pronounced pink blush if you have blond hair and blue eyes: you do not want a Barbie effect!
• Pale skin and dark hair?
Then you can choose to have pinkish tones on your skin like porcelain. Also brownish may be beautiful.
• Brownish skin and blonde, red or light brown hair?
Apricot and terracotta are perfect blush tones for you.
• Darker skin and dark hair?
A blush that contains pink will highlight your complexion immediately. Even more bold choices like bright orange or darker pink tones are useful for you. Or play safely with a touch of bronzing powder. But be subtle, or you get an artificial orange tint.
POWDER OR CREAM?
There are different textures for blush: cream, mousse, powder, stick and -very new- even liquid blush. What you choose best depends on your preference and your skin type.
Powder blush
Powder blush, color powder (in a box) that you apply with a brush, we all know. Advantage: You do not make your hands dirty and you can take it anywhere. You can choose a matte result or for a powder that contains gloss particles. Due to its dry texture, a powder blush is especially suitable for a more oily or mixed skin. In dry skin or older skin, powder may creep into the skin folds.
So use it as follows: You take some powder, tip it in your hand or in the cap, move it around for a while, then take it up with your brush and apply it slowly with movements on your cheeks.
Cream blush
Cream blush comes in a jar and has a rich texture, making it ideal for the drier and / or ripened skin. Unlike a powder, a cream does not crawl in the wrinkles. A greasy skin that easily glides or is sensitive to pimples is not so well suited for this type of blush.
This is how it’s done: Cream blush easily divides through the warmth of your fingers. Gently rub your fingertips on the cheeks for a subtle effect and a beautiful transition. Lubricate – especially with a dry skin – your skin first with a thin layer of moisturizing cream, otherwise the color pigment adheres to the dry spots and looks spotty. For the same reason, do not put cream on your powder.
Blush stick
Blush Stick is a cream blush in stick shape. Like a cream, this is not suitable for oily skin, but for all other skin types.
This is how it works: With the stick you apply the product directly to your skin, then wipe it with your fingers until you get a nice transition.
Blush mousse
Blush-mousse has a dryer texture. When in contact with the skin, it transforms into a powder. It is suitable for a common, mixed and more oily skin. On a dry skin it can sometimes feel very much like it is there.
Here’s how to put it on: Just like with the cream blushes, you put it on with your fingers.
